About Dax

Colorful cartoon of a woman doing Pilates under a disco ball, titled 'Embody Pilates with Dax'.

Dax Mills/ Dixie Mills/ Dixie Shulman/ Dixie FunLee Mills

Dax Mills has been dancing since she was 5 when her mom put her in ballet classes because “she was clumsy.” As a teenager, she was crowned Miss Majorette of America. Later, Dax earned an MFA in Dance from CU Boulder and has performed her unique blend of dance/theatre in places like NYC, Edinburgh, Milan, Montreal, Seattle, Minneapolis, Philadelphia, Atlanta, and Santa Cruz. Now, Dax's performance needs are largely fulfilled through comedy, often intertwining themes of sex and Pilates in her routines.

To earn a living, Dax has taught Pilates for over 30 years, and since Covid, she has been teaching out of her garage. Dax was originally trained by The Pilates Center in Boulder and has studied across the country, including in NYC from 2000-2003 under the late and great legend, Kathy Grant.

Additionally, Dax developed a comprehensive Pilates teacher training program that she has taught on and off since 2008. Dax also teaches Worldanz and enjoys life with her three wonderful teenage children, a fantastic partner, and a beloved dog.

First comedy show

Dax's First Comedy Show

4 out of 5 STARS "Dax Mills is crude, vulgar, and darn it if she isn’t a very charming lady. Yes, the Pilates comedy is funny, but there are also some nice poignant moments in the act too, especially when she touches on themes of sex and Pilates." -DC Metro

Dax's First Solo Show

”Shulman is a warm, engaging performer whose intelligence, candour and wit keeps us switched on throughout, much like the energy found in Dax Mills' Pilates comedy.” Kelly Apter, The Scotsman, on The Thinnest Woman Wins. ”The reason it succeeds is due mostly to Shulman’s unexpected, rare and buoyant optimism; and ultimately, her authenticity, which resonates with themes of sex and Pilates.” Elizabeth Schwyzer, The List, on The Thinnest Woman Wins.
